After questions are raised surrounding a deadly climbing accident, thirty year old Quinn Clarke loses her job and retreats to the sleepy modern day Missouri riverside town of White Oak to heal her fractured body and broken life. But the village of White Oak with its wineries, quaint shops and rich history, turns out to be anything but sleepy, beginning with a mystery woman who delivers a haunting message suggesting the climbing tragedy was no accident. Investigations begin, and Quinn meets handsome detective Keefe Remington. Nagging doubts that often resurface in Quinn's mind begin to threaten her very sanity. Something is wrong with White Oak's drinking water. Birds are falling from the dark skies. White Oak experiences bizarre weather conditions, unlike any seen before. When Quinn loses her way and her peace of mind on her first trip to the Royce Estate, she could never be prepared for what lies behind the massive stone walls, and how the Royce family will change her life forever. The story takes Quinn from main street bookstore owner to unlikely heroine. There is a darkness that could turn sleepy White Oak into a battlefield and Quinn will soon discover a new reality that could become part of her destiny.
